International human rights groups demand Ronald to play for Saudi Arabia to ’draw attention to human rights issues’

By the 6th, the international human rights organization Amnesty International expressed its view that football superstar Cristiano Ronald, who joined Saudi Arabia’s Al-Nasr, should focus on the country’s human rights issues while he is a member of the club.
Amnesty International quoted Dana Ahmed, the group’s Middle East researcher, in a press release
”Arnasr’s signing of Cristiano Ronaldo fits the pattern of sportwashing in Saudi Arabia,” it said.
Sports washing refers to a phenomenon in which the evaluation of a subject increases through sports.
Ahmed added: ”It is very likely that Saudi authorities will use Ronald’s presence in the country as a way to advertise and distract from the country’s appalling human rights situation.”
According to Saudi state media, Ronald’s annual salary at Al-Nasr is estimated at $200 million (approximately 26 billion yen)
CNN reached out to the Saudi Ministry of Sports, the Saudi Football Federation and the Saudi Pro League for comment, but did not receive a response at this time.
