Hokkaido “ice merry-go-round” experiment
The Hokkaido Development Bureau created an experiment at the Nakasatunai Village dam, cutting ice that had frozen over a lake into a circle and spinning it while people were on it, creating an “ice carousel.”
The ice carousel, also called the “ice merry-go-round,” is popular in northern Europe.
In the experiment, they gathered around 20 people who work in tourism.
Using a machine, they cut a round shape around 10m big into the ice on a lake.
People then can ride it and use their feet to rotate it.
The people on the round slab of ice can have fun doing things like taking pictures of the mountain and lake scenery or lying down.
開発局の人は「冬のダムに今までなかった遊びをつくって、もっと楽しんでもらえる場所にしたいです」と話していました
The people at the Development Bureau said, “up until now this fun had never existed; we want to make the dam in winter someplace where people can have even more fun.”
